Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How do I get access to Explorify’s activities?

Explorify's programmes of activities are available to enrolled users after every half-term (allowing for differences between schools) for a ten-activity introductory programme. Our first programme started in February 2017 and our main launch will be in September. Sign up, and we’ll either add you to the current programme or the next programme that has space.

You need to be an enrolled user to access Explorify's activities. You know if you're an enrolled user because you would have been asked to create a password and some other questions about your school's address and favourite subjects to teach.

If you think you have signed up but are having problems accessing activities, then please contact us.

What if I want access to the activities but don’t want to follow the programme?

Taking part in the programme gives you access to the activities. The programme is designed to embed this new way of thinking into your class and allow you to see progression and improvements in their discussion and thinking.

What equipment will I need?

Explorify is an online programme that is built as a series of web pages with helpful prompts and guidance on email, so an internet connection through a computer, tablet, laptop or mobile is essential for your preparation, as well as an email account. Many of the activities don’t require anything in the classroom, as they are discussion-based. For some activities, you’ll need a way to show videos and images. Some may require you to source everyday items, like a newspaper or a leather shoe.

How much does it cost?
Nothing. Explorify is free.

How does it work with BBC Terrific Scientific?
Terrific Scientific is a teaching resource that aims to engage pupils age 9-11 years with monthly investigations step by step, linked to the curriculum. Explorify is a programme of daily activities designed to help all primary teachers take the spark of curiosity and develop it further to help primary pupils to build on their curiosity, think like a scientist and discover more about the world around them. Our activities will link with the curriculum topics of Terrific Scientific too and support bridging between lessons and getting discussion started and can be used throughout the rest of the year once the programme is completed.

How do I know if I'm on a programme?
After you’ve signed up, you will either join the current programme or be shown a "countdown" page to notify you when the next programme starts. You will then receive email reminders and tips once the programme has started.

I'm enrolled but I don't have a Facebook account, can I still take part in the Explorify staff room?
We are only running our “staff room” in Facebook. Setting up a Facebook account is simple - www.facebook.com - and you could limit it to just your work email address and not even use a real name as long as it looks feasible (e.g. no numbers).

The activity video is not working, how I can access video?
All our videos are hosted on Vimeo from the Explorify account so first check whether you can access Vimeo at all and if not, please speak to your IT support to enable access. If this isn't the problem then please contact us.

Vimeo is working, why won't the video play?
Some of our videos are provided by the BBC and because of their rights agreements you can only view BBC videos while you're inside the UK. If you are inside the UK but receiving this message from us, this iPlayer information page has some useful guidance on how to correct your IP address.

Why haven't I received my password reset email?
Some email services block emails sent automatically. In order to prevent this happening, please add "explorify@wellcome.ac.uk" to your email contacts. If you are still having issues, please email us as that address.
